About ACT's Board

Traditionally, nonprofit board members are presumed to be the people with the most money to contribute. We reject the idea that the richest amongst us should drive the strategic planning of our work, as we prioritize being led by the working class people most likely to utilize our services.
As in many application processes, marginalized folks often do not apply for opportunities unless they meet ALL of the required criteria. Our board is a space of leadership development, ongoing learning, and community-building. We are prioritizing deep values-alignment and strong knowledge of our service population over previous board experience.

Board Member Requirements:

- Strong values alignment.

- Foundational knowledge of the Reproductive Justice framework and a commitment to continued learning.

- A minimum of a two year term (up to two terms may be served: 4 years maximum).

- 5+ hours per month, including one mandatory monthly board meeting (1.5 hours).

- Board members are required to donate or fundraise $3k/year OR contribute an equitable amount of time donated towards organizational work.

- Each board member is required to sit on at least one committee (Operations, Fundraising, or External Affairs). Each committee meets for one hour per month.

- Attendance of two bi-annual planning retreats.
